SHIFT: Artists Thinking Globally and Acting Locally was a snapshot of artists living and working in Ohio who embodied an art practice that prioritized universal transformation by starting from within their immediate purview. Concepts and approaches to artmaking that are both intimately distinctive as well as internationally conscious can support and become a catalyst for change at all levels of society. In this moment of environmental crisis, ongoing social unrest, and political upheaval in the United States as well as abroad, the arenas in which artists might be able to affect change are severely contracted yet have profound implications. The 11 artists in SHIFT created art with the understanding that a commitment to the collective begins with a devotion to the intimately personal.
Featured artists include Amber J. Anderson, Autumn Bland, Alison Crocetta, Lauren Davies, Tracy Featherstone, Terence Hammonds, Kevin Harris, M. Carmen Lane, Lorena Molina, Danielle Julian Norton, Xia Zhang.
