“In discussions about the legacy of fearless experimentation, deep environmentalist dedication, and community mindedness left by the late Sue Cavanaugh, a beloved Ohio textile artist, it occurred to us that the materials and spirit of her final piece and installation would be an excellent springboard for a group of artists.
The common threads running through the exhibition are the physical material and conceptual wellspring of Cavanaugh’s earlier artwork, as well as the impressions left behind. Whether a large swatch, a small snippet of fabric, or the deep underpinnings of ecological responsibility and concern, the artists incorporated a vestige of her legacy into their own work, style, media, and concepts. To witness the hand of each artist, in a sense, taking up the hand of Cavanaugh gives us a common thread throughout the exhibition.”
